IT Simplified: Generative AI

What is Generative AI?

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, such as ChatGPT, help to create diverse content like audio, images and videos, code and simulations. By training on existing data, Generative AI identifies patterns and compiles them into a model. Despite lacking human-like thinking abilities, the data and processing power of AI models allow them to recognize its patterns.

But a Generative AI model do not consume fresh data sets , atleast not the big ones.It gets its input from a human use. The input is in the form of ‘promt’. It then uses its learned index of facts and principles to produce content according human tastes and expectations. Before ChatGPT went prime time in November 2022, jaw dropping AIs were:

  1. Dall-E,
  2. Stable diffusion
  3. Midjourney

These were some online AIs which were incredibly prompted either by snippets of text, or images, supplied by the user.

How can businesses use Generative Artificial Intelligence?

Generative AI models rely on user prompts to generate content based on learned rules and principles. Image-generating models like DALL-E, Stable diffusion, and Midjourney have amazed users with their ability to create stunning outputs from text or image inputs. Businesses can utilize Generative AI in several ways:

  1. Personalized product design: Generative AI tailors content creation to user-specific interests. For businesses, this means creating personalized images based on intellectual property for items like T-shirts, bedsheets, and wallpaper. With the rise of 3D printing, AI-designed models, kitchenware, wall mounts, and furniture could be manufactured locally, enhancing personalization.
  2. Knowledge and resource management: AI models trained on unstructured information can assist employees in accessing the knowledge they need. Chatbots like ChatGPT can provide information, keep documentation updated, and generate new documents on-demand. This streamlines processes, improves efficiency, and reduces the need for dedicated support staff.
  3. Empowering decision-makers: Generative AI interprets large data sets and presents findings in clear, conversational language which enables AI to participate in decision-making processes. This enhances organizations’ ability to become data-driven and embedding AI into day-to-day operations.
  4. AI assistance: Integration of generative AI with other software, such as image editing or enterprise solutions like SAP, can enhance productivity and efficiency. Microsoft’s investment in OpenAI and plans to incorporate ChatGPT into Office products and Bing search indicate the potential for AI assistants in various applications like those in the healthcare department.

Generative AI tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E have the potential to revolutionize job roles and industries.Machine learning has already demonstrated positive impacts in medical imaging analysis, weather forecasting, and more. AI adoption is increasing, and investment in AI is growing rapidly. While the full scope of AI’s impact and risks remains unknown, it is clear that generative AI is poised to change various aspects of business and technology.
